The postseason narrative over the last several weeks of the season has been dominated by the SEC. Everyone wants to know if they will be the first conference to send two teams to the College Football Playoff. What happens if neither No. 1 Georgia or No. 2 Alabama make the playoff at all?

In Week 11 Auburn hosts undefeated Georgia. Auburn just needs a win, big or small. The Tigers are actually slight favorites in the contest so it’s not all that inconceivable. The Tigers will then need to take care of Louisiana Monroe before finishing the season with a win over Alabama in the Iron Bowl.

Weird things happen in rivalry games. Auburn needs to blow the doors off the Alabama. If they do that they’ll be set up for a rematch with Georgia in the SEC Championship game. If they win that they’ll have beaten the undisputed top two teams in the country three times in the final four weeks of the season.

Then what else can the committee do? They can’t take a 2-loss Georgia team that doesn’t have a conference title over a 2-loss Auburn team that beat them twice. And they can’t justify selecting Alabama, who didn’t make the SEC championship game and got trounced by the future champions.

Auburn wins the SEC and earns a spot in the College Football Playoff, leaving Alabama and Georgia on the outside looking in.
