Any momentum gained from Baylor football‘s first win of the season quickly evaporated during a sloppy offensive showing in a Week 11 loss to Texas Tech.

What a day (both good and bad) from Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer. The freshman passer took the starting job from Zach Smith a few weeks ago and has continued to produce each time he takes the field. Brewer completed 43-of-63 passes against the Red Raiders for 417 yards and three touchdowns. He threw one interception and fumbled twice.

Through the air Brewer out-dueled Texas Tech gunslinger Nic Shimonek who threw for 246 yards and two scores. That didn’t matter in the end because the Baylor defense was absolutely dreadful and the offense kept shooting itself in the foot. The Red Raiders returned the opening kickoff 92 yards to start the scoring and didn’t let up. They were aided along the way by four Baylor turnovers.

Texas Tech scored 17 points off of Baylor turnovers. They led this game by as many as 17 points. The Red Raiders offense was okay, but it became even more effective with short fields to work with.

Following successive Texas Tech punts in the fourth quarter, Baylor took over near the eight minute mark trailing by 14 points. The offense has the chance to make it a one score game. Instead another Brew fumbled was picked up by Douglas Coleman and returned for a touchdown.

Texas Tech scored 24 offensive points. For the most part that would be considered a good showing by the Baylor defense. On Saturday, however, it was the Bears’ offense that got in the way and kept them from earning their second win of the season. The Bears host Iowa State next week before ending their season on the road against TCU.
