Things have gone from bad to worse for Florida State football as the Seminoles can’s even recover fumbles correctly.
You would think that a proud program like Florida State would put up a fight in a rivalry game against Clemson. Honestly, I believed the Seminoles would give the Tigers a tough time, but the first half was all Clemson.
And then there was the ugly fumble recovery attempt by the Seminoles’ defense. How can a fumble recovery be ugly, you ask? Well, as kids, football players are taught to jump on a fumble, no matter what.
There are exceptions to that rule, though. If the ball is fumble and it bounces up into the hands of the defender or if there is absolutely no one around, you pick it up and try to score. Conversely, if it’s a big situation in which you need momentum and there’s a crucial fumble, you jump on it.
Florida State’s defense didn’t get that memo.
Just check out how bad the fumble recovery attempt was:
Wow. That’s really all that can be said about that. The Seminoles have an opportunity to keep the Tigers from extending their lead to three scores right before half with a fumble inside the 5-yard line and four players can’t fall on the ball?
Granted, he thought there was no one around when he tried to pick it up, and he was right, but after completely missing it and then trying again, followed by a couple of Seminoles joining in the action, Clemson was able to recover in time to dive on the ball and ruin Florida State’s chance at momentum.

This was a microcosm of Florida State’s season. Nothing has gone right for this team, and that extends to trying to pick up fumbles now, too.
