Mississippi State had Alabama football on the ropes coming into the fourth quarter. However, it was not to be on Saturday night.

Everything seemed to be pointing to an upset by Mississippi State tonight. The Bulldogs drove up and down the field. Moreover, the Bulldogs led going into the fourth quarter, 24-17. Mississippi State ran up 330 yards in total offense on the Crimson Tide. Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald threw for 142 yards on 12-of-20 attempts.

The Bulldogs looked like the better team on Saturday through three quarters. Be that as it may, there was no doubt that Alabama would come back though. They’ve done it before. And Alabama is Alabama.

The Bulldogs got everything they wanted including 172 yards rushing yards. That being said, the great teams find a way to close out games. And That’s exactly what Alabama did in the fourth quarter.

The game was still in doubt, until Alabama strung together a six-play, 68-yard drive. Ultimately, Alabama scored with 25 seconds to left with a pass from Jalen Hurts to DeVonta Smith for 26 yards and touchdown. All the cowbells fell silent at that very moment. Consequently, Alabama is going to be the No. 1 team next week, when the College Football Playoff rankings come out.

Ironically, the Crimson Tide can thank their rival Auburn for taking down undefeated Georgia 40-17. There is going to be no debate on who is No. 1.

Alabama continues to come up big when they need to. Nick Saban still has crimson blood running through his veins. By the same token, Alabama showed that a team can play toe to toe with them. Auburn is going to be a test in a couple of weeks.
