It was not a good weekend for Arkansas football, especially redshirt freshman quarterback Cole Kelley who was arrested with a DWI.

The Razorbacks were handed a 33-10 setback at LSU Saturday night, and several hours later, Kelley was booked in the Washington County jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and careless driving.

Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema released a statement in which he claimed to be aware of the situation surrounding Kelley.

“I was informed early this morning of an incident involving Cole Kelley,” Bielema said. “We are gathering all information from the proper authorities and will make a determination upon review of that information.”

Kelley came to Arkansas in 2016 ranked in the Top-20 for high school quarterbacks. He redshirted that season, but has saw action in nine games this year, completing 87 of 151 for 1,038 yards and eight touchdowns to four interceptions.

In the loss to LSU, Kelley completed 3 of 10 for 33 yards with an interception.

The 20-year-old was released on bond Sunday. His booking in the jail came at 8:47 a.m. CT and a hearing is scheduled for Monday.

A native of Louisiana, Kelley had his best game to date in a 39-38 victory over Coastal Carolina two weeks ago. He completed 16-of-25 for a career-high 264 yards with a touchdown. Kelley also had 189 yards and three touchdowns in a one-point win over Ole Miss last month.

Arkansas has also played Austin Allen at quarterback this year. The senior has not taken a snap since Oct. 7 against South Carolina.
