Notre Dame Football remains in the hunt after Week 11 CFB Playoff rankings

Notre Dame Football suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday. The Week 11 rankings gave the Irish reason to hope.

The prime time match up at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday was billed as a heavyweight fight. The only problem was that someone forgot to tell the Irish to show up. Notre Dame football was dismantled by The U in front of a national audience and the College GameDay crew.

Notre Dame was expected to fall from the top four. There’s no way that the committee was going to absolve them of a 41-8 defeat, regardless of the opponent. However, the committee did a good job not let recency bias affect them a bit too much when they slotted the Irish at No. 8.

As the end of the season approaches the talk of a 2-loss Playoff team is starting to gain some steam. The Irish have just as much a claim to that spot as anyone. Their schedule has been much more challenging that everyone else in the country and their two losses have come to some of the nation’s best teams.

Yes, the loss to the Hurricanes was devastating. But Miami is now the No. 3 team in the nation. Georgia, who the Irish fell to by a 1-point margin, checked one spot ahead of the Irish at No. 7.

It’s going to be a long, uphill battle for the Irish to regain a top four spot. They are going to need some help along the way. However, the committee showed a vote of confidence when they placed them in the top eight tonight. The Irish aren’t out, not yet.
