It would seem that Kevin Sumlin’s time is up in Aggieland. However, could there be reason enough for him to stay another year?

Most fans want Kevin Sumlin gone and fast. I am here, however, to play the devils advocate. Could the head coach be worthy of another year in Aggieland? I think so. Here are my reasons why.

Let’s start with the obvious. The current players love him as do recruits. Let’s take a look at Tennessee and Butch Jones. In the month of November, the Vols lost six big name recruits. Three of those have been in the last week since Butch Jones was fired.

Texas A&M has 15 commitments for the 2018 class, ranking near the top in the nation. They also have three for the 2019 class, including one of the highest ranked quarterbacks in the nation in Grant Gunnell. Losing those guys could be a huge deal for the Aggies and the firing of Sumlin could lead to that.

Above is current star receiver Christian Kirk’s statement on Kevin Sumlin. He is not the only player this season to share such sentiments. You cannot keep an underperforming coach simply because players like him of course, but shouldn’t that be a factor in the decision?
