Vanderbilt caught Kentucky at the wrong time. There was a time where the Commodores might have been competitive in this game. But it wasn’t going to happen with the Wildcats coming off a heartbreaking loss to Ole Miss. Without Ralph Webb getting going in this game, Vanderbilt was going to have a hard time winning and that was exactly what happened as Webb was held to just 70 rushing yards.
This team showed real promise early on in the season but after they challenged Alabama and got sent back to earth, the Commodores have been mediocre at best. They face a surging Missouri team this week and that doesn’t bode well for the Commodores bowl chances. Either way, Vanderbilt is sitting better than Florida and Tennessee and I think the Commodores have a bright future ahead of them, just not for the rest of this season.
Arkansas wasn’t going to beat LSU let me make that clear. However it was good to see Austin Allen back on the field. The Razorbacks kept this game interesting for most of the game but the 14 points allowed in the fourth quarter and none scored were enough to make the game look like a bigger blowout than this really was. Arkansas wasn’t going to stop Derrius Guice, their defense just hasn’t been good all season. More concerning for their defense was the big day by LSU quarterback Danny Etling.
The Razorbacks move on to face Mississippi State at home this week, a tall task for the Razorback defense as they face one of the best running quarterbacks in the country in Nick Fitzgerald. The opportunity for an upset could be there but its slim. Should the Razorback offense be able to move the ball things could be interesting but I think Fitzgerald will be too much for Arkansas’s defense.
