2. Josh Adams finds himself on the bench

Now, by no means would a Week 12 benching of Adams be a permanent one. However, there is certainly a chance that we do see a change in some capacity during this week’s meeting with Navy. Running back and Heisman candidate Josh Adams has struggled greatly as of late, bringing one of the nation’s highest yards per carry averages down to eight.

Adams might have been able to earn a pass against Miami, a game in which all aspects of the team were sputtering, but last week’s loss marked the second time in as many weeks that Adams had finished with a less than impressive statline.

The junior out of Pennsylvania has built on an already stable foundation this season, but his recent success has been marred by a few disappointing outings. It started in Notre Dame’s Week 10 matchup with Wake Forest, a contest in which Adams put up only 22 yards on a curiously low five carries. Poor outings are to be expected, but he followed Week 10 with only 40 yards against Miami.

With a strong supporting cast of Dexter Williams, Tony Jones Jr., and Deon McIntosh behind Adams, Kelly could certainly give his star some time to mull things over on the bench should his struggles continue against Navy. Again, Adams is easily the best back on this roster, so no benching would be permanent. However, don’t be surprised if you see one following another poor start.
