Penn State Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Nebraska in Week 12
By Brett Renner
Nebraska faces another tough matchup this week as it will take on Penn State football. Here are three bold predictions heading into the matchup Saturday.
Penn State comes into this game ranked 13th in the nation by the playoff committee. After losing back to back games, the Nittany Lions are coming off a blowout win at home against Rutgers. Now, I know you’re wondering, do they still have a chance at making the playoff? No. Penn State would need Ohio State to lose to Illinois and Michigan to make the Big Ten Championship. With that being said, it would still be an outside chance that they would make it with two losses.
Now, Penn State still has a likely chance to win out and to cap off another successful season by making one of the New Year’s Six bowls. With two very winnable games left against Nebraska and Maryland, Penn State has the opportunity to solidify another solid season and to put a nail in the coffin to the Mike Riley era at Nebraska.
For Nebraska, they are still trying to find their identity — yes I know, we are 12 weeks into the 2017 college football season. To say this season has been a disappointment for the Huskers is simply an understatement. Nebraska has dropped their past two games, including last weeks atrocious loss to fellow below-average Big Ten foe Minnesota.
To make matters worse, Nebraska will have to take on Penn State this Saturday without their veteran quarterback in Tanner Lee. There isn’t much to analyze going into this matchup to predict what the end result will be. As Nebraska fans like to say, “Skers by 90”, well Cornhusker fans, it might just be the other way around this weekend.
Penn State will look to get ahead early behind their Heisman hopeful in Saquon Barkley. If the Huskers have any chance to even compete in this game, they will need their redshirt freshman Patrick O’Brien to step up in his first career start. By the sounds of it, this matchup could end ugly for the Huskers, and quite frankly, it’s going to.
