TCU football will be without Quarterback Kenny Hill,  safety Niko Small and running back Darius Anderson for Saturday’s game against rival Texas Tech.

Head coach of the Horned Frogs, Gary Patterson, stated that quarterback Kenny Hill will not be traveling with his teammates to Texas Tech this Saturday.  Safety Niko Small and kicker Jonathan Song will also not be playing.  Darius Anderson, one of the Frogs’ best backs, was injured in the game against Oklahoma and will be out the rest of the season.

Hill’s absence means that freshman quarterback Shawn Robinson will be the signal caller for the team on Saturday. The interesting note to this story is that the coach has not stated why Hill be be out of the game.  Substituting an untried player this late in the season seems a risky move the team would hope to avoid particularly since TCU is ranked 11th in the country.

Hill’s stats so far have been good.  A Texas A&M transfer, Hill has accrued 2,279 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in 2017. Robinson, his replacement, has not had much play time, but thus far is 7-for-10 passing with 99 yards and two touchdowns. He has yet to be called upon to carry the team for a full four quarters meaning Saturday will be his most extended opportunity to date.

The loss of Hill and Anderson could be detrimental to TCU on Saturday as they will be without a starting quarterback and without one of their most productive running backs. TCU is still very much in the hunt for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game. A loss against Texas Tech would open the door for Oklahoma State and sour what has been a tremendous season for the Horned Frogs in 2017.
