If Washington State football makes it to the Pac-12 Championship Game, it will be on the shoulders of quarterback Luke Falk.
No. 14 Washington State football could quietly make a run at the Pac-12 Championship Game this year, with a win over in-state rival Washington Huskies on Nov. 25. The Cougars do have the week off during Week 12 action. Yet, senior quarterback Luke Falk is sure to be prepped for the contest with UW in Week 13.
The Apple Cup will decide the Pac-12 North and give Falk and head coach Mike Leach the chance to eventually face the No. 11 USC Trojans in the Pac-12 Championship Game. Yet, Washington State is already eliminated from College Football Playoff contention, though.
Falk entered the season as one of the highest-regarded quarterbacks in the Pac-12. Moreover, the Pac-12 was considered one of the best conferences for its quarterbacks in the country entering this season. USC’s Sam Darnold, Washington’s Jake Browning, and UCLA’s Josh Rosen all had high expectations entering the 2017 campaign.
Yet, the forgotten quarterback among that group is often Falk. That’s partly because head coach Mike Leach’s squad does not get the recognition it deserves in the Pac-12. The job that Leach and Falk have done with the Cougars is truly remarkable.
Washington State has a 9-2 (6-2 Pac-12) record, with a real chance at 11 wins to finish the season. That record puts the Cougars only behind USC among the best teams in the conference. Morever, the Cougars are the only Pac-12 team to defeat the Trojans this year. USC caught fire after that loss as well.
Here are three reasons Luke Falk is the best quarterback in the Pac-12.
