Arkansas football got off to a hot start against No. 16 Mississippi State on Saturday, but what did we learn from the SEC battle?

As the season draws to a close, Arkansas football fans are beginning to realize that the Bret Bielema era was hanging on by a thread. The former Wisconsin coach came into the game against No. 16 Mississippi State essentially fighting for his job and his team came out hot.

In fact, the Razorbacks scores the first two touchdowns of the day to take a quick 14-0 lead but Dan Mullen’s squad quickly bounced back to tie things up.

Arkansas took the lead back and attempted to hold off Mississippi State in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t easy. The Razorbacks weren’t able to fend off the Bulldogs, allowed two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lose 28-21.

Here’s what we learned from Arkansas’ Week 12 loss against Mississippi State.

3. David Williams needed more carries

Despite the fact that Devwah Whaley entered the 2017 season as the presumed replacement for Rawleigh Williams III, he’s looking like a less effective option than senior back David Williams.

No, that’s not exactly the most ideal scenario for the future of the Arkansas backfield, but Williams is running like a man possessed lately. For yet another contest, he looked like the team’s top option despite Whaley getting 10-plus carries.

Williams finished the game with 75 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries. Could he be eclipsing Whaley in the backfield? It’s possible, but one thing is for sure: Williams needs more carries. The season might be over, but let him run wild in the season’s final week.
