Searching for its second win of the season, Baylor football gave the Iowa State Cyclones all it could handle for most of the game in Week 12.

Baylor football made things interesting with the Iowa State Cyclones in the first half, only down by seven points. However, the Bears kept things interesting with quite a few opponents this season and they only have one win. Meanwhile, Iowa State looked to respond from a loss to the No. 13 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys with a road win at McLane Stadium in Week 12.

Freshman quarterback Zeb Noland got his first career start against the Bears after taking over for Kyle Kempt last week. Baylor has a stud freshman quarterback of its own with Charlie Brewer, who’s been red hot since taking over for sophomore Zach Smith.

Iowa State needed to rely heavily on star running back David Montgomery to overcome a tough Baylor squad coached by Matt Rhule. Head coach Matt Campbell is also one of the hottest names on the coaching market right now with big time programs like the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Florida Gators, Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers, Arkansas Razorbacks, etc. all looking to fill openings right now or presumed to be in the near future.

Campbell knew his Cyclones would have a tough battle on their hands considering Baylor’s offense is finally finding its way. Brewer and sophomore wide receiver Denzel Mims can put up numbers on even the best of teams. They did just that against the Clones.

Despite Brewer’s best efforts, Baylor is still stuck at one win on the season. Some positive takeaways can be carried over to next year for Rhule. But, he has just one game left, against the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs, to build some momentum for 2018.

Here are three takeaways from Iowa State’s victory over the Baylor Bears in Week 12.
