Looking to keep bowl hopes alive, Florida State football had its way with Delaware State on Saturday to improve to 4-6.

It didn’t take long for Florida State to earn its fourth win of the season on Saturday. In fact, the game against Delaware State was essentially over after the first quarter as the Seminoles took an early 21-6 lead following an interception returned for a touchdown.

Everything seems better when you’re winning and for Florida State, it could do no wrong on Saturday against Delaware State. Sure, it was a cupcake opponent, but it was also a confidence-boosting blowout. For a team that started the year 3-6, a win over a cupcake is better than nothing.

The Seminoles went on to run the Hornets out of Tallahassee, sending them home with a huge blowout defeat, 77-6. Jimbo Fisher learned some things about his team before a big matchup with reeling Florida next weekend.

Here’s what we learned from Florida State’s blowout win over Delaware State.

3. Derwin James still in running for top NFL draft pick

Despite playing on a losing team through the first 12 weeks of the year, Florida State safety Derwin James continues to show why he’s a top NFL draft prospect. Although it was against lowly Delaware State, James looked solid throughout and even made some electrifying plays, including a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown.

James essentially took the ball right out of the Delaware State receiver’s hands and takes it to the house, bobbing and weaving through traffic.

Florida State hasn’t had many positives this season, but James is clearly one of those. He ignited a Seminole crowd that was falling asleep in a 14-6 game against an FCS opponent. He is clearly looking like a potential No. 1 pick, but can he continue to show off like this with two more games on the schedule? My guess is yes.
