Oklahoma football had no problem taking down Kansas in Week 12. What did we learn from the Sooners’ blowout win over the Jayhawks?

Playing Kansas has its benefits as well as drawbacks. One benefit is that it’s almost a sure win, especially if you’re Oklahoma, one of the top four teams in the country. The major drawback is that it’s tough to get up for a game against a mediocre team such as the Jayhawks.

Oklahoma sleepwalked through the first half against Kansas on Saturday and then cruised to an easy 41-3 win over the Jayhawks to improve to 10-1 on the season with one regular season contest to go. Either way, the Sooners will be playing for a Big 12 title and a potential playoff berth.

Here’s what we learned from Oklahoma’s seemingly easy win over Kansas.

3. Sooners can actually play defense?

Who knew this was possible? Shortly after recording a nice in over TCU and holding the Horned Frogs to just 20 points, Oklahoma held Kansas to just three points and slightly over 150 yards.

Yes, you read that correctly, the Sooners have allowed just 23 total points over the last two weeks after giving up 52 to Oklahoma State three weeks ago. The defense looked much better despite the fact that it was playing a mediocre Kansas offense.

It’s easy to discredit the blowout win because of the quality, or lack thereof, of opponent, but the Sooners have come a long way since that 62-52 win over the Cowboys in Bedlam. Can Oklahoma keep this up as the season enters the final weeks?

One thing is for sure: the playoff committee will be looking at just how much defense this Oklahoma team is willing to play. That’s arguably the one thing that kept the Sooners out of the playoff last year — well that and two losses.
