1. Sam Ehlinger is the quarterback of the future for the Longhorns

A rough finished did hurt the overall stat line of Ehlinger. However, he seems to always at least keep the Horns in big games. Losses to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and USC were all close contests that Ehlinger almost pulled out.

With how good the Texas defense is playing, Ehlinger has to just take care of the ball. Making freshman mistakes will happen, but he does a great job minimizing them. Ehlinger was the second leading rusher for the Horns in this one, behind freshman running back Daniel Young.

Buechele saw limited action in this game, despite the start. An injury to Ehlinger did give Buechele three straight starts, resulting in two wins over the Kansas Jayhawks and Baylor Bears. However, it’s become clear that Ehlinger is the answer for the Longhorns.

Help from the running game between Young, Ehlinger, and Kyle Porter makes this a very balanced offense for the Longhorns. Give Herman one more year, and this Texas offense will be tough to stop with Ehlinger behind center.
