Boise State consolidated its spot as MWC Mountain champion and won its first game over Air Force since 2013. What did we learn from the Broncos victory?
Boise State had already claimed its spot in the Mountain West championship game when Wyoming fell earlier on Saturday against Fresno State. That left no mathematical possibility on the table for anyone to overtake Bryan Harsin‘s squad.
They left nothing to chance, though, as the Broncos crushed Air Force in late-night action to cap Week 12. The Falcons had Boise State’s number in recent seasons, but there was no question as to which team was better in 2017. With a dominant win on the Smurf Turf, Boise State earned its first victory over Air Force in four tries.
By taking down the Falcons at home, Boise State kept itself from needing the backdoor route to the MWC Mountain title that had already been secured. But, more importantly, the win also ensured that they still have a shot at another trip to the Fiesta Bowl or another New Year’s Six game.
