2007 Chick-fil-A Bowl

Auburn Tigers def. Clemson Tigers, 23-20
Dec. 31, 2007

The Chick-fil-A Bowl’s celebrated its 40th anniversary by hosting two powerhouse programs in No. 15 Clemson and No. 22 Auburn, who gave us the first overtime game in Chick-fil-A Bowl history.

The battle of two Tigers started out as an expectedly defensive struggle, with only 10 total points being scored in the first half, and Clemson taking a 7-3 lead into the locker room.

But in the second half, the offenses woke up

The game was back and forth until the 4th quarter when the two teams put up a combined 17 points, tying the game at 20 and taking it to overtime. In the extra period, Clemson managed only 17 yards on seven plays, leading to a 25-yard Mark Buchholz field goal.

Auburn took the ball and marched down the field, setting up a Kodi Burns seven-yard TD run that closed out the game for the SEC Tigers. The entire Auburn team ran into the end zone to celebrate the victory.
