In a weekend that had few upsets, the painful defeats stood out even more glaringly. Read ahead for the three worst losses that transpired in Week 12.

It was a weekend where chalk mostly reigned. Highly-rated teams took care of business against cupcake opponents. By and large, the majority of favorites did what they were expected to do against underdogs.

But just as there is every weekend in college football, there were a few games that went against the grain. The fact is that every weekend is going to offer surprises when 130 different teams are involved, and Week 12 of the 2017 season was no exception.

The worst losses of the week don’t always pertain to a high-ranked team falling hard. Sometimes it can involve showdowns between rivals, or everything coming together perfectly for an abysmal team against a mediocre one.

That was the case in Statesboro, where Georgia Southern didn’t just book its first victory of the season. The Eagles looked like a dominant outfit as they emerged from the ranks of the winless with a 52-0 shutout of South Alabama that eliminated the Jaguars from bowl contention.

As painful as that shameful Sun Belt loss was for South Alabama, though, it didn’t quite make the list of the worst losses of Week 12. Instead, there were three other losses that had even greater implications for teams around the country. Read ahead to see which three games featured the worst losses of the week in the lead-up to Thanksgiving weekend play and the end of the regular season.
