The ninth win of the season for Notre Dame football kept the Irish in the national spotlight before taking on the Stanford Cardinal in Week 13.

Notre Dame football needed to rebound in Week 12, after losing to the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes in the national spotlight in Week 11. The Fighting Irish were able to do just that with a close win over a pesky team in the Navy Midshipmen.

This 24-17 win could be what the Irish needs to continue momentum through a possible appearance in a New Year’s Six Bowl. Navy is an underrated AAC team that is easy to overlook. Yet, inadequate preparation for a triple option team like Navy can burn you.

The loss to Miami derailed any chance that the Irish had at making the College Football Playoff. However, Notre Dame still carries a top 10 ranking and is on a much better track than a season ago. That does not rid Notre Dame fans of the disappointment they have in head coach Brian Kelly for not preparing his team for the big time again.

For Navy, this was a great opportunity to steal one at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, and get the seventh win of the year. However, competing on the road with such a good team is a positive step for this Navy team to finish off the season well.

A late touchdown for the Irish let them escape Navy at home. If not for that touchdown, this game might have swung in a different direction. A loss to Navy might have put Kelly’s job status back on the line.

Here’s five overreactions from Notre Dame’s victory over the Navy Midshipmen in Week 12.
