5. Brian Kelly still trusts Brandon Wimbush

There were some questions as to the direction in which Kelly would go after a struggle for junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush against the Canes. However, Wimbush played well most of the way in the win over Navy.

Backup quarterback Ian Book did not take a single snap against Navy, and Wimbush finished with one of his highest QB ratings of the season. Wimbush was solid for Notre Dame most of the season, just the loss to Miami was a huge speed bump.

It seems like Kelly could end up sinking or swimming with Wimbush over the next two years. While Wimbush does give Notre Dame a dual threat ability that Book does not, many questions still remain about his arm and consistency in the pocket.

Getting the outright start in this game shows that Wimbush is the answer for the Irish moving forward. And, the confidence that Kelly’s trust in Wimbush must have instilled in him helped Notre Dame win this game.
