Notre Dame Football: 5 overreactions from win over Navy
1. Chaos could still land Notre Dame in the Playoff
While it would take the top six to completely cannibalize themselves in the coming weeks, Notre Dame does still have a slight chance to get into the Playoff. Even with getting blown out by Miami kept the Irish in the top 10, the selection committee still has some respect for them.
Notre Dame’s wins over the USC Trojans and Michigan State Spartans still hold a large amount of value. USC’s last loss was actually the convincing defeat at the hands of the Irish. If the selection committee had to come down to picking USC or Notre Dame, the Irish would be the obvious choice.
Moreover, the only two losses for the Irish came against two teams that could be in the Playoff as well. Miami and the Georgia Bulldogs would be in the Playoff if both win out. Yet, both Miami and Georgia still have conference championship games against the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide.
Next: Where will Irish land in Week 12 CFB Playoff Rankings?
If teams like USC and the Ohio State Buckeyes still have a slight shot to get into the Playoff field, then Notre Dame does also. More than half the teams in at the top of the College Football Playoff Rankings would need to lose, but anything can happen at the end of the year.
