Texas A&M football finally found a November conference win on the road in Oxford. It wasn’t the strongest of victories, but it was a win none the less.
It is no secret that in recent years, Texas A&M and the month of November are not necessarily friends. However, for at least a day, the Aggies turned that around with a victory over Ole Miss in Oxford. This is a team that will likely have a new head coach for the 2018 season and is run by the likes of freshman all over the field. Despite all of that, they came out on top on Saturday.
Here are five reasons the future may be truly bright after the Ole Miss win.
5. Kevin Sumlin, despite what many think, was good for Texas A&M
It is that time of year again, the coaching carousel is getting weird. Texas A&M and Kevin Sumlin parting ways seems all but official and rumors about who will coach for the Aggies in 2018 are swirling around and around. However, I am a firm believer that while Sumlin may not be the ideal coach for the Aggies, he was extremely good for the Aggies during his tenure.
Since joining the SEC, #TAMU is 51-25 in Kevin Sumlin's six seasons there--only Bama, LSU & UGA has won more games in the league. In the six seasons before, the Aggies were 42-34.

The issue, of course, is winning within the SEC West, especially at home. That, in itself, is enough for Kevin Sumlin to get canned. However, it should be noted that Sumlin was good for the program as a whole. He, along with players he brought in, put Texas A&M Football back on the map and made it a premier coaching destination.
Good luck in your future coaching endeavors Coach, assuming your time in Aggieland is up. You have done wonderful things for the Aggies that will likely be appreciated for years to come.
