Rivalry week has begun and once again Texas A&M football and Texas are the talk of the town. Should these teams reignite the rivalry?

It has been six years since Texas and Texas A&M last took the field as bitter rivals. Is it time to rekindle that rivalry or is it now just a thing of the past? Each person seems to have a different opinion on whether or not the game should be played and in what capacity.

I can see both sides easily, however here are my reasons why these two teams should meet once again on a yearly basis.

5. Change of conference should be no excuse

Much of the argument against the Lone Star Showdown centers on the Aggies movie to the Southeastern Conference. For the Longhorns, Texas A&M left the Big 12 and as a result the rivalry is over. For the Aggies, they have moved on to “bigger and better things” and as a result don’t have time for the Longhorns. The students, as proved below, want the game back. The blaming of conference realignments has to stop.

However, the conference change should not and does not matter. Look at the rivalry weekend schedule. Florida plays Florida State year in and year out. Georgia plays Georgia Tech year in and year out. South Carolina plays Clemson year in and year out. These teams are not in the same conference and yet have found a way to play each other each and every year.

The Aggies and the Longhorns can easily do much of the same, they simply have to let go of their pride and put the game on the yearly gauntlet once again.
