As the 2017 season winds down the coaching races are heating up. UCLA football has positioned themselves as the top job on the market.

It came as somewhat of a surprise when UCLA made the decision to part ways with head coach Jim Mora following a loss to USC. The six-year coach had been rumored to be on the hot seat, but the pressure seemed manageable compared to other places around the country. Yet the Bruins decided it was time to make a change, if for no other reason that to get out in front in the race for a new head coach.

Chip Kelly is the prized target for several programs. Florida has reportedly had talks with the former Oregon head coach, but UCLA has thrown their hat in the ring at just the right time. Whether it’s Kelly or someone else, the Bruins should be at the top of the list of head coaching jobs this offseason.

Los Angeles is a fertile ground for recruiting. UCLA is one of the most recognizable brands in college football. The advantages are everywhere.

UCLA also has the added benefit of not being in the SEC. Tennessee, Florida and potential openings at Texas A&M and Arkansas have one glaring obstacle: Nick Saban. The Bruins have to face a resurgent USC squad every year, but that pales in comparison to the juggernaut that is the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Every program will have their chance to make their case. Some will be a tougher sell than others, but that wont be the case for UCLA. They’re one coach away from national relevance, and that’s too attractive for any elite coach to pass up. Sorry SEC, UCLA is the best available coaching job in the country.
