The Irish fought off an upset bid from the rival Midshipmen, but the win was far from a success. Navy’s grueling and monotonous offense doesn’t allow for many blowouts, but a seven point victory wasn’t ideal.
The Irish will look to make their final playoff plea this week as they take on the Stanford Cardinal. While Stanford isn’t performing at a level similar to those of previous years, a solid win over them still garners a certain level of respect from the College Playoff Committee.
That said, Stanford still comes in at No. 21 in the rankings despite their 8-3 record. A win against the Cardinal will mark the third time this season that the Irish have taken down top 25 competition. However, a loss will mark the third time Notre Dame has lost in that same category.
