If UCLA football is able to land a head coach like Chip Kelly after the firing of Jim Mora, it would be ideal for the success in the PAC-12.

The coaching search has begun for UCLA football after the firing of former head coach Jim Mora. After the conclusion of UCLA’s loss to the USC Trojans in Week 12, Mora was let go by the Bruins. UCLA joins the ranks of the Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators, and possibly the Texas A&M Aggies and Arkansas Razorbacks soon in the coaching search.

Some of the hottest names right now among current college football coaches include Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, UCF’s Scott Frost, and Troy head coach Neal Brown. Yet, the Nebraska Cornhuskers seem to be hot on the trail of Frost and Campbell will be a favorite target among all the best openings in the nation.

UCLA should start to look outward at some options like former Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly and Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Tom Cable. Yet, Kelly would be the dream hire for the Bruins, as he is currently taking a run at a career as a commentator with ESPN.

Interim head coach and offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch is certainly in the running for the permanent gig. UCLA’s offense was rather impressive for most of the season, behind the leadership of junior quarterback Josh Rosen.

The problem for the Bruins was not the offense this year. It was the defense that cost Mora his job at the end of the day. At least Mora went out on a competitive note, losing by only five points to UCLA’s biggest rival and PAC-12 South Champion in USC. Now, it’s time to move on from Mora.

Here’s five reasons Chip Kelly would be a good fit with the UCLA Bruins after the firing of Jim Mora.
