Shea Patterson is rumored to be shopping for another program if Ole Miss football is banned from bowl contention in 2018.

Rumors have been swirling lately about the potential transfer of former blue-chip recruit Shea Patterson from Ole Miss. The Rebels should be doing everything in their power to keep the talented gunslinger in Oxford, but the Patterson to Michigan rumors have heated up.

In fact, there is some serious traction to the rumors of Patterson visiting Ann Arbor this weekend for The Game between Michigan and Ohio State. If that’s the case, and he’s able to meet Jim Harbaugh before taking in a huge rivalry game, that could mean he’s strongly considering the Wolverines.

Is this a likely scenario, though? While he could very well be exercising his right to have options, he might not be the best fit for the Wolverines, and vice versa. For one, he’s not guaranteed a starting job, although he would be the most talented quarterback. Learning the new system and beating out the quarterbacks already on the roster would be tough.

Harbaugh has been known to take in transfer quarterbacks — first it was Jake Rudock and now John O’Korn. However, he has recruited two four-star passers that have been considered “the future” by the fan base. Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffrey are next in line, but would Harbaugh really throw away their potential for a shot at a transfer?

Honestly, I just can’t see that happening. While Patterson might be looking for a new home this offseason, along with Matt Luke more than likely, Michigan just doesn’t seem to be the best fit.

Patterson will be coveted by just about every program looking for a quarterback, but it seems like Harbaugh likes what he sees in Peters and that might just be his guy for the future. Maybe Patterson will stick around and fight Jordan Ta’amu for his starting job.
