Auburn Football: 3 takeaways from win over Alabama in 2017 Iron Bowl
By Dana Becker
Auburn football was able to come away with a major upset of No. 1 Alabama on Saturday night in the Iron Bowl.
Once again, Auburn football found a way to claim the Iron Bowl over Alabama.
The Tigers (10-2, 7-1 SEC) won their fifth consecutive game to earn a spot opposite Georgia next Saturday in the SEC Championship. The winner will likely earn one of the four College Football Playoff spots up for grabs.
There was no need for a miraculous return on a missed field goal this time, as Auburn dominated for the majority of the contest with the Crimson Tide (11-1, 7-1 SEC), which lost for the first time in the regular season since September 19, 2015.
Alabama took a 14-10 lead in the third quarter when Bo Scarbrough scored on a 21-yard run, but Auburn answered with 16 unanswered points, sealing the deal when Jarrett Stidham ran in a 16-yard score with just under 13 minutes to go in the game.
Junior wide receiver Ryan Davis tortured the Tide secondary, hauling in career-highs for catches with 11 and yards with 139. His previous career-bests were nine receptions and 80 yards.
Nick Saban’s troubles with Auburn continued, as he is now 0-7 against the school when they have won at least nine games in a season.
Here’s three takeaways from the Iron Bowl.
