Louisville football controlled this game from start to finish. Lamar Jackson and company dismantled Kentucky 44-17 to win the Governor’s Cup.

It was the Lamar Jackson show on Saturday afternoon against the Kentucky Wildcats. From seemingly the first snap, the Cardinals dominated in every aspect of the game. Jackson is one of the best quarterbacks in college football and he reminded every one of that against Kentucky. He showed why he is the defending Heisman trophy winner.

Here are my three takeaways from the Cardinals’ big time win in Lexington.

3. The Louisville defense deserves some credit

This team is extremely talented on the offensive side of the ball. That much is never in question. However, the Cardinal defense deserves some serious props for this match up against the Wildcats. They all but shut down quarterback Stephen Johnson and as a result the Wildcat offense was one-dimensional and unsuccessful.

Give the defensive front of Louisville credit. This team kept Kentucky off the board for much of the game, holding them to all of 17 points for the entirety of the game. For a season that started off so well for the Wildcats and included an offensive explosion against Ole Miss, they surely screwed up against Louisville on Saturday.
