1. Texas punter Michael Dickson was the team’s MVP by far.

While the Longhorns did not come out on top, the team definitely had an MVP for Friday night’s match up. That was punter Michael Dickson. The Australian punted nine times for 458 yards, his average sitting just over 50 yards. That is quite the leg and I can promise you it will be one we will see on Sundays in the coming years.

Texas’ offense wasn’t able to finish out the game the way they wanted to, but Dickson did quite well for the season closer in Austin. Many defenders could easily fill that MVP spot as well, but I’d give it to Dickson and to say that the Texas fans agree may be an understatement.

Next up for both of these teams? The wait for their bowl destinations to be announced. A 6-6 regular season is not what the Longhorns were hoping for when they brought Tom Herman to town. However, he has the chance to put together the first winning season in Austin in the last four years.

Whether or not he can do that all depends on the bowl game. If nothing else, he’ll have one lights out punter. On a night (and a season) filled with offensive identity issues, Michael Dickson never failed to show up.
