Texas A&M football needs to land Jimbo Fisher this offseason or else the program could be in trouble in the immediate future.

Winning consistently in the SEC is not an easy task, just ask Kevin Sumlin. He was hired in 2012 after a successful tenure at Houston and posted an 11-2 record in his first season with the Aggies.

However, winning 11 games in the first year with Texas A&M was his downfall. He set the bar so incredibly high in year one that he was never able to consistently live up to expectations placed on the program before each subsequent season.

News broke earlier this week that Sumlin would be fired following the LSU game in Week 13 and even though the Aggies will have a bowl game approaching, it seems as if the program is ready to move on.

Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher has been one of the names tossed around and he is almost a must-hire at this point given the lofty expectations of the program. Fans are in “win now” mode and the only coach who could bring instant success that’s still on the market, in my opinion, is Fisher.

Sure, Les Miles is still out there, but there’s essentially no chance he is hired by the Aggies. Fisher is atop the Aggies’ coaching search board and there’s a good chance he is offered a monster contract on top of his buyout.

If Texas A&M isn’t able to land Fisher after all of the hype surrounding the interest from the Aggies’ side of things, it will be bad news for the immediate future. Texas A&M fans want to win now, and he can bring that attitude.
