The Washington Redskins have been susceptible to opponents on the ground this season Their 3-4 defensive scheme leaves them vulnerable if the center of that front isn’t playing at a high level. Ziggy Hood, a veteran out of Missouri, has been having a rough season. Pro Football Focus puts him outside the top 100 defensive tackles in the league. There are only 32 NFL teams. You do the math.

Assuming that the front office decides to resign or at least franchise tag Kirk Cousins, the defensive interior is where this they need to look first. Vita Vea, a 6-foot-5 and 340 pound tackle out of Washington, could start for this team from day one.

Vea has seen his role on the Husky defense increase since his freshman season in 2015. A junior, Vea has become the anchor of a defensive front seven that is arguably the most formidable in the Pac-12. The Huskies lead their conference in both passing and rushing defense, befitting greatly from Vea’s ability to engage multiple blockers.

Vea added another half sack in Washington’s Apple Cup win over Washington State in Week 13.
