NFL Mock Draft 2018: Complete first round after Week 13
Playing on a 1-11 team can’t be easy, especially for someone with the talent level of Dorance Armstrong Jr. The Kansas Jayhawks had a forgettable season, but Armstrong Jr. remained level-headed throughout and that’s almost as impressive to scouts as production.
How can players handle adversity? That’s something they’ll face a ton of in the NFL, win or lose. Armstrong Jr. had a monster sophomore season with the Jayhawks in 2016 to put himself on the map but his numbers took a step back in 2017, despite still being solid.
In fact, he finished with 59 total tackles, 9.5 for loss and just 2.0 sacks after finishing with 10 sacks and 20 tackles for loss last year. Based on potential alone, he’s considered a potential first-rounder and the Lions have succeeded with that kind of pick before.
Just a few years ago, they chose Ezekiel Ansah even though he was a raw prospect out of BYU and the defensive end has become a force for Detroit. Put Armstrong Jr. on the other side of that line, with Anthony Zettel, and you have a strong group up front.
