Tennessee football is looking in all the wrong places for their next football coach. Here are five more realistic and much more attainable options for the Vols.

After Greg Schiano was almost hired and then not hired the Tennessee coaching search has gone down a rather discouraging path. There have been so many potential names thrown out there. Slowly but surely the Vols have gone down the list and been rejected time and time again.

So far it looks like Jon Gruden is out of the running (surprise!). That seemed to be over before the Vols moved on to Schiano. After that debacle reports have surfaced that the Vols have considered, if not offered the job to, Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State, David Cutcliffe at Duke, Chad Morris at SMU and Jeff Brohm at Purdue. They’ve most recently been linked to Dave Doren at NC State. How much further down the list do they need to go before they find someone, anyone, willing to take the job?

It’s clear that the current list that John Currie is operating with isn’t working. He needs to go ahead and scrap it and move on to some fresh names that nobody has mentioned yet in connection with the open head coaching position for the Tennessee volunteers. Here are five candidates that deserve to be at the very front of the list.

Or you could just let Lane Kiffin run the team using “Ask Madden”. That’s the backup plan.
