Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M football dominated the headlines in the college football world this week, but what happens if he doesn’t join the Aggies?

Texas A&M football is about to get the news if Florida State Seminoles head coach will take over for the Aggies. Kevin Sumlin was let go after six years with the program and a lot of mediocrity in SEC play to finish his tenure.

Landing Fisher would be the jackpot for the Aggies since the three best other candidates, Chip Kelly, Scott Frost, and Matt Campbell are already off the market. He brought a National Championship to Tallahassee just a few years ago, in 2013 with a freshman Jameis Winston.

However, the 2017 campaign seems to be an anomaly for Florida State, with a 5-7 record, one of the worst for the Noles in recent memory. The loss of sophmore quarterback Deondre Francois hurt Florida State’s hopes for any run through the ACC and to the College Football Playoff this year.

The news of a few recruits decommitting from FSU does not bode well for the school’s chances of hanging onto Fisher. However, he has a good thing going with one of the better programs in the nation, and with less pressure than in the SEC.

Winning in the SEC can cause too much stress for some very good coaches. Just look at former Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain resigning this year. That might be too much for Jimbo to want to leave Tallahassee for College Station. He gets Francois back, along with a bevy of other returning talent on offense.

Here are five next best coaching candidates for the Texas A&M Aggies if Jimbo Fisher does not leave Florida State.
