UCLA Football: 3 signs that the Chip Kelly era will be great
Nabbing Chip Kelly out of broadcasting and returning him to the college football world was huge for UCLA football and its fans.
If the college football world were an open stock market, UCLA football’s stock just rose a ton with the hiring of former Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly. He will replace former head coach Jim Mora who was just recently fired by the Bruins.
Kelly takes over a situation where the Bruins could contend in the PAC-12 pretty quick. Star junior quarterback Josh Rosen does have a decision to make with Kelly at the helm now, but it seems like he’ll declare early for the 2018 NFL Draft. But, this UCLA team would be a guaranteed top 25 team to start the 2018 campaign if Rosen stays.
However, if Rosen leaves, Kelly has a few options to go with. Redshirt freshman quarterback and Rosen’s backup, Devon Modster, should be in line to be the starter at the beginning of 2018. However, four-star recruit Dorian Thompson-Robinson is a perfect fit for Kelly’s system and would be a great option also.
Giving Kelly options should make this offense even more lethal. He seemed to always have a great quarterback for his offense with Oregon. The biggest challenge for Kelly will be getting the defense to at least a level of mediocrity. Mora’s job is likely now gone because of the UCLA defense.
The right decision was definitely made for Kelly by picking UCLA as it is a much more potent job than other suitors like the Florida Gators and Texas A&M Aggies.
Here are three signs that the Chip Kelly era will be great for the UCLA Bruins.
