2. Coaching background

Lane Kiffin was born to be a coach. It’s in his blood and its what has been since he was 22. First of all, Kiffin’s father Monte Kiffin is one of the bright defensive minds the game has ever seen.

Lane’s father is the man credited with the invention of the famous “Tampa 2” defense. Monte has coached for 57 years. And one of his pupils was Pete Carroll, who his son would later coach under.

Kiffin was under Pete Carroll at USC from 2001-06 and in 2005, Kiffin was elevated to offensive coordinator. With the help of Steve Sarkisian, the Trojans averaged over 48 points per game and over 575 yards per game. That offense put up historic numbers.

The Trojans saw Matt Leinart throw for over 3,000 yards, LenDale White and Reggie Bush rush for over 1,000 yards and receiver Dwayne Jarrett had over 1,000 yards receiving. He was the new wizkid of football doing all of this before he was 30.

From 2007-2013, he was the head coach at the Oakland Raiders, the Tennessee Volunteers and the USC Trojans. Six years full of regrettable decisions that he had to overcome.

And in 2014, Nick Saban added him to the Crimson Tide coaching staff and the transformation became. While at Alabama, the offense never scored under 35 points per game and won one National Championship.

Coach Kiffin is ready to right his wrongs from Oakland, Tennessee and USC.
