NC State football almost lost Dave Doeren to the Tennessee Volunteers, but they didn’t. He’s now signed an extension with the Wolfpack that fans should be excited about.

The Wolfpack thought they lost their head coach to the Vols. Now, he has signed a new five-year deal worth $15 million.

Dave Doeren has been the head coach since 2013 and has a record of 33-30. This record may not look great but the team has been on the raise since Doeren has been there. North Carolina State is now on the map and it is mainly due to the culture Dave Doeren has placed in Raleigh.

Here are three reasons why NC State made the right decision.

3. Protection

The athletic department did the right thing when they heard Dave Doeren’s name mix tied up in the Tennessee head coach search. Luckily, he turned them down.

But NC State’s job was not done yet. They had to make sure Texas A&M or other schools did not try and take him away. There also could have possibly been openings at Florida State or Oregon. Both places being very well-known programs. They anted up put their chips in the middle of the table. Luckily Doeren said yes.
