1. A Change in the Culture

For years, NC State has been a revolving door of coaches. Since the 1954 season they had 10 different coaches. Only one of those coaches had tenure in the double digits. Dave Doeren wouldn’t have left this year but more likely than not he would not have made it 10 season.

NC State wanted to change that culture. It might not seem like a lot but coaches are people too. They know when a program will are or will not have faith in their coaches. And for the longest, the Wolfpack gave their coaches the axe rather early.

For (at least) the near future the athletic department wants to stick with Dave Doeren. This vote of confidence might be exactly what Doeren and the program needs to evolve. His current players and the current and future recruits now have a culture trust. When it comes to recruiting, a coach needs to have personality. And Dave Doeren has built one in Raleigh.

If the school didn’t get him an extension and he walked, that could have set the program back many years. NC State has found their guy and Dave Doeren has found his school.
