Sophomore A.J. Brown, for Ole Miss football, put together a record breaking and breakout season in 2017. What will he do in 2018?

Ole Miss football is a program that could go through a rebuilding phase after the NCAA announces its sanctions put on the program at the beginning of December. However, the hiring of interim head coach Matt Luke to be the full-time guy is a positive move in terms of the program’s image.

Luke did an underrated job in getting Ole Miss to what would be bowl eligibility if the Rebels were able to play in the postseason. Winning the SEC West was an especially tall task this year with all the pressure on coaching switches and elevated play from the Auburn Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The most promising part of this team is the offense that will be returning next year. Star sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson has the brightest future of any offensive player in the SEC. And, superstar wide receiver A.J. Brown is primed to start gaining NFL attention soon.

There’s a good chance that Brown and Patterson become the best quarterback-wide receiver duo in 2018, after Oklahoma State’s quarterback Mason Rudolph and wide receiver James Washington are gone. Luke deserves credit for managing that relationship well.

However, Brown set the Ole Miss single season receiving yards record this year, including some time missed due to injury. Ole Miss also did not have a chance at the SEC Championship Game or a bowl game, and Brown still broke that record.

The fact that the motivation is still there for Brown and the Rebels despite all the controversy was truly amazing. It’s only a matter of thought as to what they can do in the SEC in 2018.

Here are three reasons A.J. Brown can be the nation’s best receiver.
