The loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship game is one more reason for Arkansas football to hope that they can lure Gus Malzahn away from the Tigers.

When the confetti fell at the SEC Championship game Guz Malzahn was not smiling. After big wins over Alabama and Georgia, Auburn fell 28-7 to Georgia in the game that mattered most. The expectations at Auburn are still set at championship levels, and a not-so-close loss in the conference title game won’t cut it for Auburn fans. That leaves Malzahn with a lot of things to think about.

Malzahn played wide receiver for the University of Arkansas. After college he began his coaching career at Hughes High School in Arkansas. He spent 15 years at the high school level before making the jump to the next level as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Arkansas. He spent a year as the head coach at Arkansas State in 2012 before becoming the head coach at Auburn in 2013.

Up until now Malzahn has spent 20 of his 26 seasons of coaching in the state of Arkansas. He’s called the head coaching job at Arkansas his dream job. The Razorbacks must capitalize on this opportunity. The expectations at Arkansas will be far more manageable and the offer it would take to get him to leave Auburn would be significant. But it’s possible.
