Georgia bested Auburn football in their rematch in the SEC Championship game. The Bulldogs punched their playoff ticket and the Tigers were left empty handed.

Auburn football (10-2) entered the SEC Championship Game on an incredible run. In the past three weeks the Tigers beat No. 1 Georgia and No. 1 Alabama. Those big wins elevated Auburn to No. 2 ranking in the nation, despite having two losses on their resume.

Injuries kept the status of Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson was up in the air until moments before kickoff. Johnson carried the ball 32 times for 167 in the Tigers’ win over the Bulldogs earlier this year. When the announcement came that he would be starting Auburn fans were able to breath a collective sigh of relief.

Georgia (11-1) has been perfect on the season, except for a 40-17 whipping from Auburn. The Bulldogs entered the game with revenge on their minds and a trip to the College Football Playoff all but ensured with a win over No. 2 Auburn.

The running duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel was held to 48 yards on 20 carries the first time these two teams met. They were both going to need to find some sort of success on Saturday if the Bulldogs were going to stay on schedule and avoid third and longs against the scary Tiger pass rush.

When the final whistle sounded it was Georgia on top. The win marked the Bulldog’s first SEC Championship since 2005. Here are three takeaways from Georgia’s win over Auburn in the 2017 SEC Championship Game.
