Nebraska football has been courting UCF head coach Scott Frost since they fired Mike Riley. Recent reports suggest Frost will become the Huskers’ next coach.

On Saturday afternoon Scott Frost was coaching his UCF Knights in the AAC Championship game against Memphis. UCF entered the game as one of only two FBS teams still undefeated. A win against Memphis would secure a New Year’s Six bowl bid and a chance to take on one of the better Power 5 programs in the nation on the national stage.

A former quarterback at Nebraska, Frost had been the target of the Huskers’ recent coaching search. The Knights trailed 31-24 at half while Frost’s opportunity to play on the national stage elsewhere continuing to pick up steam.

It was during the halftime break in UCF’s game that Bruce Feldman reported Frost’s staff at Nebraska was nearly complete.

Frost was the first quarterback at Nebraska to pass for 1,000 or more yards and rush for 1,000 or more yards in school history. The call to coach at his alma mater was always going to be challenging to resist. It looks like Frost has done more that consider taking the job, he’s built his staff.

Florida, Florida State among others were in the running to pull Frost away from UCF. It’s understandable for Frost to be in such high demand. When he took over at Central Florida the Knights had just come off a winless season in 2015. The school is two years removed from that 0-12 team and have completely flipped the script. A win against Memphis on Saturday would give UCF a perfect 12-0 regular season.

If this recent report is to be believed this might be Frost’s last game on the sidelines at UCF. A conference championship and an undefeated season would be a nice way to cap off a short, but impressive two-year stint with the Knights.
