Arkansas Football: 3 reasons Gus Malzahn should join the Razorbacks
The College Football Playoff field is announced. Auburn and Gus Malzahn are not a part of it after losing the SEC Title. Should he leave for Arkansas football now?
Arkansas football is still in need of a head coach after the firing of Bret Bielema following the season ending loss to the Missouri Tigers. A name that keeps surfacing for the Razorbacks is current Auburn Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn.
Since Auburn lost in the SEC Championship Game to the Georgia Bulldogs, Malzahn might be thinking about a return to where his SEC coaching career began in 2006. He started as an offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach. Malzahn first joined Auburn three years later, in 2009, as an offensive coordinator/quarterback coach.
Landing Malzahn would be a home run hire for the Hogs. It would be similar to that of the Texas A&M Aggies hiring former Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher. Rumors have been swirling over the past two weeks in regards to Malzahn filling the void in Fayetteville.
This was a rough year for the Hogs, finishing with a four win season. Moreover, three of those wins were over teams like Coastal Carolina and Florida A&M. Bielema needed more success in SEC play and against tough out of conference opponents like the TCU Horned Frogs.
The Florida Gators already filled a coaching void by bringing over Dan Mullen from Mississippi State. Once Arkansas fills its void, the Tennessee Vounteers will be the only SEC team left searching for a coach. It could be a while for Tennessee.
Here’s three reasons why it makes sense for Gus Malzahn to leave the Auburn Tigers to join the Arkansas Razorbacks.
