Speculation is running rampant these days surrounding the Florida State football program, but it looks like Willie Taggart might be the next coach after all.
It’s been a rough year for Florida State. First, the Seminoles lost Deondre Francois in a top-five battle against Alabama to start the season. Next, Florida State went just 6-6 in the regular season after opening the year No. 3 in the country — and the Seminoles needed the final game against UL-Monroe to become bowl eligible.
Lastly, Jimbo Fisher bolted for College Station amidst rumors that he would be taking the job at Texas A&M after he and the athletic department didn’t see eye-to-eye.
However, hope might just be on the horizon in the form of Oregon head coach Willie Taggart. He has been the head coach of the Ducks for just one season, but he was a hot coach on the market last offseason after leading South Florida to relevancy again.
Now it looks like he has finalized a deal to move back home and become the next head coach of the Seminoles.
Sources now confirming Willie Taggart is finalizing contract to become next #FSU head coach. Taggart looking to bring Jim Leavitt with him. Announcement expected later today.

This is a huge deal for both Oregon and Florida State. For one, the Ducks now have to scramble to figure out who their next head coach will be, if the report is true, and two, Florida State now has a coach that can ensure the program doesn’t skip a beat in 2018.
Hope was lost when Fisher took the job in College Station, but it’ll quickly be restored if the reports of a ‘done deal’ are true.

Moreover, the fact that he could bring Jim Leavitt, one of the top defensive coordinators in the country, with him would be huge for the Seminoles’ defense.
