An all-time record of 17-18 in 35 postseason bowl games for Notre Dame football includes four National Championships and quite a few upsets.

No. 14 Notre Dame football landed in the Citrus Bowl in what should be an entertaining matchup with the No. 16 LSU Tigers. It was not too long ago that the college football world was buzzing about the Fighting Irish as a legitimate College Football Playoff contender.

Convincing defeats at the hands of the Miami Hurricanes and Stanford Cardinal blew Notre Dame’s chances at even getting a spot in a New Year’s Six Bowl. The Irish will take part in one of the better non-New Year’s Six Bowls, though.

This could be the last time that Notre Dame fans get to witness quarterback Brandon Wimbush and running back Josh Adams spearhead the ground game. Adams’ 1,386 rushing yards and nine touchdowns is the best season of his career.

Notre Dame has a chance to add to its rich bowl game history. Few programs have a greater pedigree than that of Notre Dame. Only Alabama and USC have as many National Championships as the Irish since 1924 (11 each).

From 1995-2007, Notre Dame went through the worst stretch of bowl outcomes in team history. Nine straight losses in the postseason (with mostly blowouts) finally concluded during the 2008 campaign. Since then, Notre Dame is 4-3 in postseason play, including a National Championship loss to the Crimson Tide in the 2013 BCS National Title Game.
