Hiring Jimbo Fisher is expected to help Texas A&M football compete for an SEC West title and more. Here’s why Aggies can be sure they made the right hire.

Texas A&M football hit the jackpot in landing its primary target for replacing former head coach Kevin Sumlin. The former Florida State Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher left Tallahassee to fill the void left in College Station. Fisher makes the jump to a conference with a few coaching vacancies yet to be filled.

The Aggies locked up Fisher on a 10-year deal, worth $75 million. Fisher leaving Florida State was truly shocking due to all the success he saw with the Noles. He’s among the best head coaches in Florida State football history. With a record of 82-23 in eight years at FSU, Fisher should be able to take Texas A&M to the next level.

Sumlin’s mediocre to good results each year with the Aggies made the fan base impatient. If Texas A&M defeats the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the Belk Bowl on Dec. 29, the Aggies will have another eight win season.

Moreover, Texas A&M finished with the same record in the SEC last season as they did this season, at 4-4. The special teams coordinator Jeff Banks takes over as the interim head coach for one game before Fisher officially starts.

Expectations are sure to be high for Fisher, even in his first season with the program. He brings a championship pedigree to a team that plays in possibly the toughest division in the nation in the SEC West.

Here are five things that made Jimbo Fisher a great hire as head coach with the Texas A&M Aggies.
