4. Success against the SEC

Fisher went 10-2 against the SEC with FSU. The opening weekend loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide might not have happened without the knee injury to quarterback Deondre Francois. Yet, losing to Alabama is never something to kick yourself about.

Getting caught up in all the hype of the SEC West can easily eat up a coach, like it did with Bret Bielema with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Fisher should not be one of those coaches that’s scared by the bright spotlight in this division.

If Texas A&M can win four games regularly in the SEC West under Sumlin, the Aggies have the room to win a few more under Fisher. Competing with the LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, and Alabama is not easy, but Fisher can and already has done it.

In fact, that 2013 National Championship that Fisher won with the Noles came against head coach Gus Malzahn and Auburn. The proven track record he had over the course of eight years against the conference he’ll be coaching in next year had to play a part in Texas A&M’s strong pursuit of him.
